3 August. Another day.. another wedding. This time it was a special one for the choir as we saw two of our members tie the knot at Ribby Hall, Wrea Green. The choir entertained the assembled throng during the signing of the register. Congratulations to both Angela and David.
As ever, Christmas 2019 was a busy time for the choir and they took part in three events. On 5th December a very special Christmas celebration concert was held with children of St Francis' School, Goosnargh. A delightful evening was had by all and the children performed magnificently.
Later in the month, on 14th December, the choir set the scene for Christmas with a concert in Fulwood Methodist Church, Preston. Popular carols and festive songs old and new entertained everyone. The concert was held in aid of the Preston L'Arche Community.
Our final event of the year, on 15 December, saw the choir entertain the diners at the Longridge and North Preston Rotary Lunch in the Civic Hall, Longridge.
12 October 2019. Come and Sing Day. The Valley Singers and guests sang choruses from Vivaldi's Gloria. The day, held in Christ Church, Longridge, was well-attended and everyone was delighted with the inspirational direction of Abigail Kitching, Musical Director of Blackburn Musical Society and the Preston Orpheus Choir, who led the day.
On 26 July the choir added verve and vigour to the hymn singing at a wedding in St. Wilfrid's Church, Longridge. We're always pleased to sing at weddings and the choir can be hired for a small fee!
The year progresses and our annual summer concert went exceedingly well. The audience were entertained with pieces ranging from the classical repertoire to modern pop classics. Everyone went home with a huge smile on their faces. (Maybe it was the interval Pimm's that helped!)
Very importantly, the concert raised over £440 for the St. Wilfrid's 150th Anniversary Fund and the Refugee Sponsorship Programme!
The Valley Singers are delighted to join forces with Brabin's and St. Mary's schools from Chipping for our Spring concert. We will be performing a variety of songs on a Spring theme with one or two surprises as well.
Tickets are available from Brabin's Primary School on 01995 61596 or St. Mary's School on 01995 61367 with proceeds from the concert going to the school's chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.
Chris Beardsley, our Musical Director, composed ‘Mary's Song’ about 10 years ago; a composition based on a poem by the same name by Charles Causley.
‘Mary’s Song’ is going to be performed twice by the talented Blackburn Cathedral Choir, first at the Christmas Spectacular on Dec 8 and then in the Nine Lessons Service on Dec 23 (to be recorded for Radio Lancs!).
